ClubHouse is an ultra lounge/sports bar hidden as a part of the San Jose Rep Structure that is worth finding. The second you walk in you see it’s big enough to bring all your friends to watch a game on their 35 TV’s. To make it even better once you see their lounge with 6 TV’s right in your face with leather sofas and leather tables you can’t help but smile. And it always helps when a sports bar lets you put the volume up on the game your watching unlike that horrible place BJ’s.
There are some minor details they need to work on before I can fully feel like LL Cool J and be lounging. You do get drawn out by the lighting since it is way too bright which doesn’t feel welcoming at all. They really need to play with that dimmer switch. Then there was also this square couch that was really out of place that was right next to the bar, it should have been somewhere in the middle, but not right next to the bar. Minor details, yes, but details that need to be worked on. Now what about the food?
I started off with some appetizers and unsweetened iced tea. You know if any place has Chicken and Waffles that is the first thing I got to get so that is what I got and really enjoyed it. They took a Belgium Waffle and cut it into four parts and put some crispy Chicken pieces on each part with plenty of syrup on top. I had to then have the Calamari Fries which really hit the spot, big and tasty with a good tarter dipping sauce. After that I decided to have a main dish of AJs Burger which was a Cheese Burger and Fries.
While the Burger tasted better than I would have thought, it was a tad too ethnic for my taste. I mean you could taste the meat mixed with spices. I get that Burger King now has a Stuffed Steakhouse, basically a Steakhouse Burger mixed with Jalapeños and Cheddar Cheese which is quite genius because they took the ethnic concept of meat mixed with spices and Americanized it by taking out the spices and putting in what people really want, Jalapeños and Cheddar Cheese. But for an American Restaurant to mix in spices with the meat? They need to at least tell you about it first so you have a choice to choose something else if that isn’t to your likening. Now about the Fries, they were fine just too plain for my taste, they should have put some seasoning on them, just a dash goes a long way or maybe Steak Fries or Curly Fries or better yet Cajun Fries.
Then again I might be making too much of this. Mind you I went on a weekday and the only game of any importance on was the Atlanta Hawks at the Miami Heat with an injured Chris Bosh so I couldn’t expect a big crowd to help give the place more of a live sports experience. And also take into account how ClubHouse’s competitors food tastes, usually bad. Have you ever ate at BJ’s, man their food is horrible, not a single good thing there so for ClubHouse to only be 2 months old and then to go 2 for 3 on food isn’t bad at all.
Would I go back, yes, because I love to lounge, watch sports on TV, their appetizers, prices and service. Plus I need to try their Fish and Chips, Cheese Burger Flat Bread and Root Beer Float. End of the day when you think of ClubHouse just ask yourself where else can you get Chicken and Waffles, Calamari Fry’s, Fish and Chips with sports playing all around you in an ultra lounge/sports bar in San Jose, CA (not Las Vegas, New York, Miami or LA)?
