MLB ‘10: The Show Review

Yesterday I reviewed MLB 2K10, one of the two hottest baseball video games that just came out this week.  Now it is time to read about the other one, MLB ‘10: The Show.  Since you need to know which game to get.  Don’t want to waste $60.

So I started the game up and thought that it would be very similar to MLB 2K10.  Was I every wrong.  MLB ‘10: The Show is a horrible game in every way imaginable.  The graphics are ok, not even close to MLB 2K10.  I felt like I was back in 1995.

Let’s start off with the pitching.  You use the regular D-pad to select the pitch and throw it.  This might sound easier than MLB 2K10′s “process” but it isn’t since it is impossible to throw strikes.  I kept walking people for days.  I don’t even know how high the learning curve on this is.

Fielding is quite easy as shown in this picture by A-Rod.  Fairly easy to catch and throw the ball.  Your throws don’t go to the wrong bases.  This part is better than MLB 2K10.

There is more of the same when it comes down to hitting.  You just use the D-Pad again but it isn’t as much fun as MLB 2K10 since you don’t get to swing the right analog stick like you are really swinging the bat.  In the first picture you see Manny Ramirez hitting.  Then in the next you see Albert Pujols hitting.

Base running is easy as well.  There are no base runners flying all over the place.  Here is Derek Jeter taking home.

This game is so dull it even made me feel like taking a nap during its Home Run Derby.  How can a video game mess up a Home Run Derby?  I mean its one thing that it happened at last years actual Home Run Derby, but this a video game.

I would have to give this game a 5.  Why only a 5?  This game is horrible.  After playing it for 30 minutes I felt like running out of my place to chase down the mail man to return it to GameFly since it was soo bad.  I had and have no interest in ever playing this game again.  The graphics and gameplay are both a 6 so you might ask why a score of 5?  The boring music, boring commentary and lack of being able to throw a strike just lulled me to sleep.  Take a bow 2K you won, your MLB 2K10 is a far superior game.
