Marcus Camby was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Portland Trail Blazers for Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake and cash. And you want to know what to do as a Fantasy Basketball player. Camby’s stats and especially Outlaws stats will go up. Don’t be surprised to finally see Outlaw blossom into the star he was made to be and for Camby to propell the Blazers in the second round of the playoffs.
The Blazers have no centers, so Camby will be a breath of fresh air. For the Clippers he averaged 7.7 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.9 blocks with 46.6% shooting. Those numbers will all go up, simply from playing 31.3 minutes a game up to close to 40 minutes a game. Also there will be no big man competition like he had in LA with Chris Kaman.
Outlaw’s numbers might improve even more than Cambys since Outlaw had soo much competition in Portland. In LA Outlaw will be the only backup to Al Thornton for small forwards. While playing power forward Outlaw could start or backup Craig Smith. Either way Outlway will easily play 35 to 40 minutes a game now. He averaged 21 minutes before and 9.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.7 assists, .73 blocks, .64 steals with 37.6 shooting and even 38.7 shooting from downtown. Not saying with double the minutes he will average double, but he will come close enough to justify picking him up and starting him. Also it doesn’t hurt that Outlaw is a free agent looking for a big contract. He just has to be a star in LA for half a season to get it.
UPDATE (After the LA Clippers traded Al Thornton, Sebastian Telfair, Brian Skinner for Drew Gooden)
Now with Al Thornton and Brian Skinner gone, Drew Gooden and Craig Smith will fight for minutes at power forward. While Travis Outlaw will get all the small forward minutes. Basically, he will start, finish and he might even play all the minutes at small forward from here on out.
