Fantasy basketball is heating up. Jon Lorenzo is still crying about Greg Oden going down. And you need to know who to pick up. If you need blocks and boards, Tyrus Thomas is a fine pickup.
1. Jerryd Bayless PG/SG POR – Portland continues to get hit with the injury bug. Brandon Roy wasn’t available tonight and Joel Pryzbilla had the gruesome knee injury last night. This opened the door for Bayless to get on the floor. Portland has seen flashes of brilliance from Bayless, and they can’t keep him on the bench for much longer. I agree with Charles Barkley, that they need to play this kid as much as possible. He torched the Suns on 12/17 for 29 and the Spurs tonight for 31.
2. Earl Watson PG IND – What do you know, it’s the all white team of the NBA with a new face at the point guard spot. Watson has been starting there for the past three games, and has been putting up decent numbers in his starting role. In his last game against the Celtics he went for solid numbers all over the stat sheet, getting 7 rebounds, six dimes, a steal, and 18 points. Look for him to give you solid numbers with a better showing in the steals department for the upcoming weeks.
3. Kyle Lowry PG HOU – The Houston Rockets have been having a tough time scoring the ball lately, they are going back to the days of when Jeff Van Gundy was coaching them; Rick Adelman and his teams never had a problem scoring the ball. This makes you wonder when Tracy McGrady will get more than eight minutes of playing time a game. But until that is answered Kyle Lowry has stepped up his scoring numbers over the last week and should continue to take about 12 shots and play for 25 minutes a game.
4. Willie Green SG PHI – Another injury has opened the door for playing time on the 76ers, this time it is Allen Iverson. They aren’t winning any games lately, so they are putting anyone they can out there. Willie Green is a solid scorer, scoring 16 and 12 points in his last two games. He also adds a nice assist element by gaining 12 of them over his last two games. Go grab him now, especially since he is only four percent owned in Yahoo Leagues.
5. Tyrus Thomas PF CHI – If he is still available in your league go get him, he should be back for Saturday night’s game. He was battling an arm injury since November. He is a blocks machine and should grab some nice boards as well. Look for him to help the struggling Bulls, and give explosive stats to your fantasy team. He is currently 46 percent owned in Yahoo Leagues and this number will balloon after Saturday.
